The game field in this exhibition stands for a place where fun can suddenly turn into seriousness. "Spielfeld Universal" is concerned with what lies at the very heart of a game: the game field as board and precondition for the players. In visual arts, the game all times played a central role. It is an inherent part of human nature and creates space for the inconscious activity of mind.

The invited artists realize their ideas concerning this broad subject in photographs, objects and installations. The artistic formulations range from gambling machines of passion to images of battle fields of sports. The notion "universal" in the exhibition title is well to be understood as "global": games bear down cutural and economic frontiers; some are accessible from around the globe through the world wide web.
