The term "copycat" signifies some kind of an imitator.
In the exhibition of Gloria Zein, Jan Bauer, Astrid S. Klein, Jurgen Ostarhild, Thomas Raschke and Sebastian Rogler, the effect and the reception of the medial picture overkill are to be studied in an artistical manner.
The use of existing picture material resp. imitation as a method to penetrate reality have been characteristical features of the work of the six artists for many years now. "To copy" to them, means "to visualize" or "to transform". As every iteration or copy affects the status and the meaning of the copied object, an effect analyzed and stated by Walter Benjamin.
Bauer, Klein, Ostarhild, Raschke, Rogler and Zein are not engaged in reproducibility nor the criminal aspect of copycat behaviour. Rather their subject is the action of comparing, imitating and copying as intentional or unconscious reaction to our surroundings and the continuously changing world of pictures.
