Celebrities usually owe their fame to some kind of cultural, sportive or other achievement. Apart from this holding a public function can turn a private person into a popular and famous character as well. As for the constitution of celebrities, the images of mass media play a crucial role. In fine art the subject “celebrity” offers an opportunity for commentary, parody, questioning and reflection.
In the exhibition “famous” the Kuenstlerhaus presents artistic positions that reveal different aspects of that theme by means of painting, photography and performance.
